πŸ₯³ πŸ₯‚ This thread is a party πŸŽ‡πŸ€Ή β™ͺ These are the words we use to say goodbye... β™ͺ

Come one, come all, to the dancing lawn!

To celebrate the transition of presidential power, raise your glass, for a virtual bash!

We can get as close as we want in this digital space, so don't be shy!

Thanks, it's open invitation, and it may go on for quite some time...

I hope it does.

I discovered this song recently. It's weird and funky. Spin it up!

Ah! That's awesome! I've heard those opening bars so many times used for that spooky-funk vibe, but I don't think I've ever known the name of the song, or even heard it once the lyrics start! Eerie Rasta Haunted Reggae!

"Rap" has meant "to talk" for quite a long time. There must be some throughline between the Black power Beat-style poetry and Hip Hop. I'm not a fan of it, honestly, but I am curious from an historical point of view. I also wonder what folk tradition Bob Dylan got the idea for his homesick "Subterranean Blues" https://youtu.be/MGxjIBEZvx0 I wondering if there is any link between the Greenwich Village Beat scene in the 50s and 60s and other forms of music. Then there's the "patter song" of Gilbert and Sullivan https://youtu.be/Lw2bHXt8_a, although I doubt that was much of an influence on later music.

This 2019 song from The Who called "Detour" has a suspiciously Brexit-ish vibe to it (some of those Baby Boomers have gone a bit soft in the bean), but it can work for the end of the Trump years as well. https://youtu.be/mITPKXD4VZA

"Give Blood" (1985) by Peter Townshend
https://youtu.be/VfggghQENsU

(Give blood) But you may find that blood is not enough
(Give blood) And there are some who'll say it's not enough
(Give blood) But don't expect to ever see reward
(Give blood) You can give it all but still you're asked for more

(Give blood) But it could cost more than your dignity
(Give blood) Parade your pallor in iniquity
(Give blood) They will cry and say they're in your debt
(Give blood) But then they'll sigh and they will soon forget

(We're heading for the day of reckoning, I'm telling ya. It's all building up to something, something that can only be redeemed with fire.)

Give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers

(Give blood) But you may find that blood is not enough
(Give blood) And there are some who'll say it's not enough
(Give blood) But don't expect to ever see reward
(Give blood) You can give it all but still you'll be asked for more

So give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love, give love and keep blood between brothers

Give your love and keep blood between brothers
Give your love and keep blood between brothers
Give love, give love, give love and keep blood between brothers
Give love, your love, and keep blood between brothers
Give love and keep blood between brothers
