The Rebel Alliance to Save America

In the original Star Wars novel based on the movie, there is a paragraph that describes what has taken place.

The Old Republic was not overthrown by an outside enemy. Instead, corrupted politicians were elected and destroyed the democracy from within. By the time, the citizens realized what had happened, it was too late and their democracy had transformed into a tyranny, an evil empire.

Then, a few brave individuals decided to fight to bring back their democratic government. They were the Rebel Alliance.
