The explosion in Beirut? It's called Deregulation.

You want a catastrophe like a pile of Ammonium Nitrate left to rot on a dock somewhere?
It's called Deregulation. You want the government to step away from supervising how commerce works? It's called Abdicating Your Responsibility. Government gets a crap-ton of $$ to oversee what's going on, and if they don't, we get screwed by greedy profiteers.
The Government and our Free Press are our eyes into what industry wants to take from us.
We have to be vigilant to protect ourselves from this pernicious effect, otherwise we are only pawns in their game.

reply

Show me proof it was due to deregulation. The economy was in the dump and on the brink of collapse. Yet, that has nothing to do with it, right?

reply

When a government doesn't have a firm hold on what is going on in it's ports, they have deregulated to where they aren't doing their job.
Did Lebanon deregulate? No. Did they not bother to regulate? Yes.
This is what the US aspires to. Don't worry about consequences, let a free market work it's Invisible Hand Magic.
Let a crap situation fester until it's a problem, then let some other poor slob pick up the pieces after the profiteers made their $$ and moved onto a great retirement with great wealth.

The government's JOB is to regulate. If not, why pay taxes? Why ask for services?
This isn't the Wild West where we fight for every scrap and crumb. We expect the government to do something after we've given 20% of our paychecks to services.

reply

Your opinion is not proof. I asked for proof so send me some. Where in the US Constitution does it say it is the government’s job to regulate?

Why pay taxes? What do you think? Our taxes are meant to protect our sovereign borders. Take a civics class. Why don’t you look up the birth of the Constitution.

So who profited from the explosion?

reply

No, it's called bureaucracy. The Soviets were masters at it. More radioactive wasteland than US has! Even outside it's borders.

reply

I would add the words 'very entrenched' in front of the word bureaucracy. They just didn't give a shit.
