Idiot Tea Party fundies oppose a second stimulus package.

Bet you anything they had no problem with the $500B corporate bailout they put in the first package months ago. These wingnuts can fuck off.

TEXT:

With that problem apparently out of the way, Republicans are now coalescing around another direct check to taxpayers, limited assistance to schools, and a significantly reduced supplemental unemployment benefit, in addition to its longstanding demand for liability protections against lawsuits for COVID-19 exposure by businesses and health-care facilities. There will also be a boost in new funding for the small business-oriented Paycheck Protection Act, and limited new assistance for COVID-19 testing and vaccine development. What the bill will exclude entirely is perhaps most significant: fiscal assistance for state and local governments (the House-passed Heroes Act includes nearly a trillion dollars for that purpose) and relief for renters facing evictions.

Less clear are the parameters of the second “stimulus check,” and exactly how far the CARES Act’s $600 per week UI bonus would be reduced. There are ill-defined issues remaining between Senate Republicans and the White House, as talks continue on the morning when Mitch McConnell was supposed to unveil the bill. And there is a revolt brewing against the entire bill among certain hard-core Senate conservatives, including Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson. At least one reporter for The Hill compared it to the right-wing resistance to the Troubled Assets Relief Program in 2008 that led to the rise of the Tea Party Movement.

Why are they delegating on how much people get in the stimulus? The point of a stimulus is temporary relief. THEY HAVE TO PAY IT BACK NEXT YEAR VIA THEIR PAY CHECKS. Who cares what they spend it on because it'll be deducted when they work again. If they fall into debt and can't pay it off, they get nothing or be living on the streets or whatnot.

Example of stimulus in Canada and how one woman spends her $2,000/m stimulus check. Reality hits harder when you don't plan and save.

Its ironic Pelosi and dems were against the $5b Trump wanted for border security but have no problem passing a $5 trillion bill through congress. I love hypocrisy.

They were against the $500B corporate bailout, too, but McConnell shoved that through. You keep forgetting that $500B corporate bailout, Bubby.

reply

The $500b was for small businesses and was included in the bill passed by the House and Senate.

Facts doogie.

The $500B was intended for small businesses, yet big corporations got their hands on it first and received a bailout. Small businesses ended up shuttering thanks to republicans who had nothing left for them.

Facts bubby.

The second GOP stimulus doesn't even offer additional funding to the states or cities. It cuts the unemployment to $200 a week. Christ, did Mnuchin concoct this or something? This is not a stimulus package, it's a suicide pact!
