Trump - America is not the world's police.

Should America withdraw its troops from around the world and concentrate on defending America and let the rest of the world fight its own battles ?

reply

That's sure an intentionally loaded question. The answer is we should engage constructively in the world. I.e. not start wars, but help end wars, like we did in Bosnia & Kosovo. Yes those were flawed examples, and came way too late, but better than never. As opposed to the invasion of Iraq, which is pretty much agreed the worst mistake in US history...aside from electing Trump.
But I'm just glad he wasn't Prez during WW2 because he would probably have followed your isolationist policy, or worse may have allied with Germany.

reply

Hold your horses there pilgrim it's not my isolationist policy. I'm not even an American.

reply

I'm in the middle of watching a mini-series called "The Plot Against America" in which populist, isolationist and Nazi sympathizer Charles Lindbergh became president. It's worth watching.

reply

I started to watch it, but don't think I'd like it. Especially since Lindbergh was a hero who flew the Atlantic. Yes, he had some issues regarding Germany and America First, but really doubt he was Fascist dictator material.

reply

All you have to do is read his quotes to know that he was definitely an anti-Semite, likely racist, and possibly a Nazi sympathizer. He didn't want to help England at all.

The United States would've become a Fascist country under Lindbergh. Don't forget that Germany eventually declared war on the United States. Either Lindbergh would've immediately surrendered to his friend Hitler or the U.S. would've fought alone since there would've been no allies left to fight with us. Lindbergh had no interest in developing the atomic bomb which Einstein had suggested. Imagine if the Germans had developed it first and then used it on the United States.

There is another alternate history show on Amazon Prime called "Man in the High Castle" which is more powerful and scary. Germany and Japan won the war. The Nazis control the east coast and the Japanese control the west. For the first time, I realized the extent of the evil which would've happened within the U.S. under Hitler.

"Especially since Lindbergh was a hero who flew the Atlantic."

It sounds like you prefer to lie to yourself in order to hero-worship rather than face the truth that the man was seriously flawed.

reply

I am not sure the rest of the world is worth saving at this point. So bring them home.

reply

What about China ?

reply

China is the most frequent violator of human rights in the world.

reply

Yeah I didn't mean China was worth saving. I meant what Should America do about China and it's ambition to become the world's number one super power ?

reply

Cut off ties with them as much as possible. Discontinue student visas for Chinese students. Move manufacturing out. China has exhausted any goodwill it had amassed.

reply

Build condominiums there and sell crap with labels.

oh wait the question was what SHOULD we do...

reply

Nope, because isolationism leads to a very weak and vulnerable America. For instance, terrorism can grow unchecked in foreign countries and eventually spread to the U.S. like it did on 9/11.

Trump removed the doctor who was in China as a watchdog guarding against dangerous viruses which had the potential to become epidemics and pandemics. A few short months later, coronavirus appeared and spread unchecked. I blame solely Trump for the pandemic.

It's also stupid to allow hostile countries like Russia and China to spread their worldwide influence and gain resources unchecked. That makes the U.S. poorer and weaker. Notice how Trump lost the Chinese market for American farmers who now face bankruptcies while other countries sell their produce to China.

Trump said he would stop N. Korea and Iran from getting nukes. Now, the U.S. is in more danger because of another Trump failure.

If China and Russia attacked other countries and destroyed their democracies, how would that benefit America? The U.S. would be economically destroyed as occupied countries would be forced to stop doing business with the U.S..

Trump doesn't' want isolationism because of a strategy. He wants it because he's lazy and doesn't want to work. The U.S. needs a president who will do more than tweet, watch TV all day and play golf.
