Venezuela, U.S. and Starving Children
Former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez nationalized their oil fields and gave the money to the poor which lowered the poverty rate throughout the country.
After he died, Maduro became president, but he wasn't as popular. "Investors" in the U.S. and Europe saw an opportunity to try and take back the oil fields and make money again by forcing Maduro out. Foreign equipment to refine petrol was denied which helped create an economic crisis. Venezuela had the oil but no longer the means to refine it. Food and medicine imports were also denied which helped destabilize the economy by causing hyperinflation. The average Venezuelan earns $6 each month. One hot dog costs $2.
So far, foreign attempts to overthrow Maduro and take their oil has failed.
Children and their parents suffer. I just watched an interesting video by a world traveler who just visited a slum. Right now, they have no tourism and it's a violent country. The traveler had went to places like North Korea, Vietnam and Iran. He's gutsy!
The video is interesting and the kids are adorable. It's amazing how friendly and happy children can remain under such horrible conditions.
