What Makes Someone Vote Republican

I have to ask this to get insight.

If you are rich, it should be a win/win due to your business and yourself getting generous tax cuts.

If you are middle class/poor, it does nothing for you. Unless you are a middle class business owner or a poor business owner, you may get a tax cut to help you survive.

So if this is the case and people really need help, even you; why deny it and not vote Democrat?

If more of the poor and middle class voted Democrat, it would be a landslide victory every time. This is based on the assumption that the 1% would always vote Republican and maybe about 25% of the middle class, who are business owners.

You are operating from a viewpoint that the role of our government is to take the labor of hardworking people to give it away to others.

All of your implied themes revolve around how much money you earn and what the government "does for you"

You are another one of those that uses that 1% number again. I view your type as envious and the type that makes the false error that if some are wealthy they must automatically be deemed "evil" and that they've "taken" money from others in order to get wealth.

The world has always had wealthy people and it has always had poor people. Here's the kicker. Money and wealth is not finite. There isn't a fixed amount of money in the world and then therefore if one person has a lot they've therefore "used up" all the money and there isn't any left over for others. The ability to create money and wealth is infinite. Apple computer making iphones and ipods and computers etc. and becoming a wealthy company didn't take anything away from me. They supplied products the consumers wanted.

Some basic safeguards in a society may be necessary but I believe the goal of any government assistance should be temporary and the goal should be to get the person out of their problem and self reliant. It isn't to just keep handing out money to them endlessly and to just supplement people's existence for decades.

The unstated vibe I get from your wording is that you believe the government's role is to just tax as much money as wanted from high earners and to just give away to others.

I don't really believe that is the role of government. I believe care and help for the poor and needy is best done most nobly done by the specific decision and will of the individuals by giving and getting involved in charities. I take it you are under the opinion that the vast sweeping redistribution of wealth is the role given to the U.S. government in the founding documents of this country (if you are American). You sound like you don't believe in the founding freedoms in this country in freedom and private property. I get the vibe you support the notion of they have a lot of money, tax most of it away from them (they are evil and they must have gotten it illicitly from everyone) and then give it away to everyone else.

I am assuming you are an American, I don't know if that is true but if so the USA is just about the most blessed place on the planet. It is replete with freedom, opportunities, prosperity, openness and opportunity. If you live in the USA and not many of the struggling countries on the Earth you are blessed. Even most of those considered "poor" in the USA have a roof, a place to stay, a TV, air conditioning and access to transportation. The country of overflowing with inexpensive food and places to buy food. If you don't get a job and buy enough food to live on the county even offers food stamps. I'm sure lots of those on the Earth that are in dire poverty would GLADLY trade places with those considered "POOR" in the USA.

I'm not really sure what you are implying with that notion of the country "not doing anything for you".

There are endless stories of those who have come to the USA from other countries with nothing when they get here who have taken advantages of the freedoms and blessings and opportunities in the country and become successful people here.

To your comment about the poor voting democrat. Pretty much all of the inner city slums are in majority democrat counties run by democrats and democrat mayors and they been that way for decades. Most of those areas never get any better. The notion that if the poor votes dem then the government will "fix" everything for them and "take care of them" has no proof of validity.

reply

Some of what you said was very true; but then again, this country was found on a God given right. To make this land work for those, who settled here, definitely required some self-reliance. In today's society, we definitely have to feel blessed that we have some sort of safety net that other countries do not have. The thing that bothers me is that that was not set by Republicans (or at least our present day Republicans), it was set by Democrats. If it were entirely Republican, we each would have to earn and live off what we earn. It seems to be mostly black and white. Democrats seem to have more leniency. If you should fail, well....you have some time to make it up. You will be cared for.

So to all the struggling countries out there, it seems like a very extreme type of Republicanism; rather, Democratism because the party switch.

This is the way I have always seen it. Unless you are at a church, you may not be helped by a Republican. I mean there is nothing wrong with that because it should be an honest worth right? You live off what you earn, not what another provides.

Strong military. Getting rid of Obamacare. Start work on keystone pipeline. More drilling. Not costing jobs because of a myth called man-made global warming. Keeping coal miners working. Last but not least. Keeping lying corrupt Hillary out of the white house.

"What Makes Someone Vote Democrat"

Healthcare mandate, rising HC premiums, open borders, higher taxes for middle class, reduced military spending, not enforcing border laws...etc...

reply

"" Healthcare mandate, rising HC premiums, open borders, higher taxes for middle class, reduced military spending, not enforcing border laws...etc...""

Who in their right mind would vote for all that crap you listed?

reply

Well, I would vote for a healthcare mandate, only it would be Bernie single payer. I highly doubt someone would vote for higher premiums UNLESS they were making profit off it. Open borders would also be to someone who thinks that this land does not belong to their country and so everyone should be able to live here. Higher taxes for the middle class, I definitely would not. I would want a proportion with the poor paying the least. Reduced military spending, I would. Border laws...to me would be insignificant. I mean there needs to be a line drawn with people coming over illegally, but causing harm to them is no way to do it.

reply

>>>> Reduced military spending, I would<<<<

Got to disagree on that one. With the world we live in we need all the military might we can get.

reply

Yeah, that topic is a bit divided.

I side with not intervening with other countries. I would rather they come on our turf and have our military here. Of course, we see what can come of it. Some of these people can take their life and many with them, without hesitating.

reply

If countries want our help then they need to pay for it, somehow we have fallen in to protecting the entire world from evil. We need to become like Canada, Australia or Spain. They all just sit back and wait for the USA to do something to protect them.

reply

I totally agree. Any fighting WE do, on their soil, should be financed by them. The U.S. is providing a service and all those serving, should be getting $ from that. I think everything is going to our politicians.

reply

The US spends more on it's military than the next 6 countries combined, and wastes a lot. A strong military is one thing, but to the extent the US relies on it for economic purposes and a paranoid world view is more than should be tolerated.

reply

My thing is whats the point of having a border if we are not going to enforce it. There should be an easier way for people to legally enter our Country.

reply

Well, that's the thing, there is a divide (pun) on what exactly the border is. Border, to Republicans, establishes a country, the U.S. To Democrats, there is very little, if any. Democrats probably view a border as coexisiting with prior cultures etc. In this case, Mexico and the Natives owned the U.S. before the colonists settled here. This is why there are sanctuary cities, this is why the border is not being enforced. I would have to agree though. The Louisiana Purchase and all the land we bought from Mexico, is still their land. To be the bigger country (because that land probably belonged to Natives, way before Hispanics); it would still technically be their land. Yes, it is part of the U.S. now; however, most Democrats would probably think we have to do them a favor in allowing them at least some legality because of their ancestors being here.

reply

The tough part is that you would think healthcare mandate and rising premiums would be inversely proportional. The more people contributing to healthcare SHOULD make premiums go down for everyone. Why did this not happen? Well, because someone wanted to profit off it.

reply

I am all for healthcare but it shouldn't be a mandate. My co pay went from $30 to $125 for a doctors visit in one year.

reply

Geez. My copays have always been $10 or none. What kind of insurance do you have?

reply

BCBS

reply

There are definitely better insurances out there.

reply

I hear that BCBS pays the most of the bill than other insurances.

reply

And that could also be why the premium skyrocketed.

reply

It is the only option in the state I live for Obamacare.

reply

Because basically I'm a Libertarian, except on foreign policy, but voting 3rd party is throwing my vote away, so I vote Republican because while I may be socially liberal, I'm fiscally very conservative and I want less, not more government intervention in my life.

reply

"fiscally very conservative"

But, Trump created a record-breaking deficit and gave an unnecessary tax break to the megarich which cost 1.9 trillion dollars.

reply

Unfortunately the deficit has been increasing since 2001 at an alarming rate.

"Until the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown (03/16/20), Donald Trump had increased debts by 16.08%. That’s considerably less than Barack Obama (69.98%) and George W. Bush (105.08%)"
https://www.self.inc/info/us-debt-by-president/

I'm for very little federal spending - just national defense, infrastructure, public schools. It should be left up to the individual states to determine what, if any social programs their citizens support.

Are the Republicans out of control with spending, yes. But I think the Dem's with their support of bigger government are even worse.

reply

except trump has increased spending MORE than the dems, even before covid. so wha tare you talking about? I dont care what you think, feel or want to believe. facts disagree

reply

Apparently you didn't read the link I provided.

reply

Your link is stale-dated since the Present = Until 06/10/2020

reply

"Unfortunately the deficit has been increasing since 2001 at an alarming rate."

Under Bush 2. That spending was a waste.

"I'm for very little federal spending - just national defense"

The American economy and protection against epidemics/pandemics are a part of national defense! I'm fiscally conservative too, but you can't be penny wise and pound foolish because national defense spending is vital.

In 2007, the global banking system almost collapsed and needed to be propped up. The foreclosure crisis was destroying the value of homes and threatened to make millions homeless which also needed to be fixed. Obama inherited this mess. The spending was needed.

Trump's poor response to covid made it much worst in the U.S. Now, it's going to take money in order to help businesses and individuals as we navigate our way out of this mess.

Another issue you haven't brought up is Trump's attack on immigration which hurt the U.S. economically since immigrants start businesses which creates jobs and raises the GDP. The failed trade war hurt farmers and cost billions. Americans are paying more in the stores because of it.

as Elcamino writes it on his government collaboration invention, the internet. driving on his socially paved roads, seeing the socially paid for cop and firetruck. goes to the store. buys his meat from the government inspected and regulated facility. if hes above 40 benefited from far higher subsidized secondary education that was more affordable and led him to getting a better job

Comes home and writes about how he doesnt like from "free stuff" and wants to take away anything that would help others move up in society.

funny america is now 27th in social mobility. well behind Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Norway. But this would take brains to understand why. How crapping on the poor doesnt increase motivation to work hard and moveup.

equal opportunity to make something of themselves is achieved by having solid base. a decently funded education and healthcare system.

now crippling the poor and defunding things that help them.

try again. this time try and get something right

Djangounlamed made excellent points about how you are benefitting from socialism.
