Because Flynn either lied or forgot/mistook the details of his conversations to Pence......which left the Vice President making statements that were inaccurate.
This gave the Media all the ammunition they needed to create 'fake' news for days. As if they needed any help from inside the White house to do that.
After 8 years of gushing and fawning all over the president, they've all suddenly turned into hard-nosed investigative journalists.

Every bit of news can be spun in a variety of directions. For 8 years, everything was spun in a happy and favoring direction. Now everything is being spun in a hysterical and hyperbolic way. This why polls are finding people actually trust Trump more than the Media...... just barely.
Two reasons I've heard. First, that when VP Pence asked him about what he discussed with the Russian ambassador, he lied then later said he couldn't remember what he discussed. Trump felt he wasn't trustworthy and terminated him.
The second is that he was hired without any intention of staying with the job, and that the whole incident was used as a trap to find out who's leaking information. Apparently a whole series of stories have (or had) been concocted and placed with various suspect individuals so they could easily be tracked back to the source of the leaks. The story also added that Flynn's real job will be much deeper than the one he was hired for.
I have no idea how true the second story is; both sound plausible.

It's the second one. It's called a "canary trap" and Flynn was graduated to the head of the class. He did a good job. Again...timing is everything.
