That's not unhinged. He's saying that the acts of terrorists cannot be contributed to their religious faith. Just because some whacko Christian, Jew, or Muslim commits an act of terrorism, even "in the name of" that particular faith, that doesn't mean the entire faith should be vilified and stereotyped. It isn't the religion that is the problem, it's the mentality of the human being who is choosing to act violently in the name of that religion.
What's funny is, if you pay attention to the radical Christians and the radical Muslims, they have very similar views and mentalities regarding homosexuals, women, guns and violence. They are non-thinkers whose limited intellect leads them to cling to the most basic and negative parts of their faiths. They are more full of hatred and intolerance than love and acceptance. THOSE are the kind of people who become terrorists. And that kind of person spans all religious faiths.
