New Berserk

Hey guys

Anyone watching? I think I saw the first episode was up on YouTube and I'm definitely tempted to check it out. I dunno though, trailer really didn't impress, and I love the original series so much.

If you've seen any, thoughts? If not, are you interested? Feel free to talk about the 1997 show if you want as I will happily engage with you even though it's been awhile.

Didn't know a new Berserk was out! Thanks for sharing! 3 episodes out so far and the rating is already under 8 - everything under 8 (for anime on imdb) means it's not that great - and that even though the first episodes usually are the strongest. Then again, the two reviews up so far bash it for not following the source material. But isn't that rather expected in anime nowadays? I don't really see the problem with that - so some of the ratings are expected to be low simply because of this. I'll continue to radar the reviews and ratings and decide a bit later, if I'll watch it. Love the old Berserk series!

Happy to share!  I only found out about this a little while ago myself. The announcement of a new series was some of the best news I'd heard in awhile, and while the trailer didn't excite me as much as I'd hoped I'm still pretty stoked to check it out. Not too familiar with the source material so that shouldn't be a problem for me.

And yeah, the old series is a favorite and I might have to watch it again in preparation.

I'm a huge fan of the original Berserk as well. I also rather enjoyed the newer film trilogy. While the CG wasn't the best occasionally, and there were one too many scenes cut from the original series, I do think the cinematography was vastly superior in the films and pacing felt slightly more professional. On the whole, I do prefer the original, but I feel the films receive more criticism than they deserve.

I should note that I haven't read the manga yet, so I still can't compare how the series/films/new series stack up against it.

As for the new series, I haven't seen it yet, though I am very excited to watch. I haven't read any reviews for fears of spoilers, but if most of the back-lash is due to the art style and some deviations from the source-material, then I'm hoping I should enjoy it as I did the original series/films. Hopefully.

I never got around to the movie trilogy, perhaps I should sometime soon. I have interest in it, I think what's holding me back is mostly just the fact that it's a shorter retelling of the series. Also Netflix only had the first one last time I checked, so I wasn't ready to commit :)

One of the charms of the original series is the obviously small-ish budget it had, which actually fit it's tone really well. That might also be why I'm not as ready to jump on more polished looking work.

With that said though I am pretty excited to see the new ones sometime. I haven't looked at any reviews either and I don't really know where the series goes and I'm so ready to see Gut's next adventures/rampages

I do appreciate the new film trilogy, however, I will say that if you have already seen the series and/or read the manga, you're probably not missing much by skipping it. Don't get me wrong, I recommend it because of the more polished work and there are a few new things here and there. But also don't feel bad if you never get around to it either, as for the most part it is a shorter retelling.

I honestly hate the animation too much to watch it.

I'm gonna give it a shot eventually, but yeah, don't really like the look of it
