Favourite credits song

Just wondering what everyone's favourite song that plays during the credits of any of the films is. Mine has to be Into the West (Return of the King) followed closely by Song of the Lonely Mountain (An Unexpected Journey).

Timeline? Time is not made out of lines. It is made out of circles. That's why clocks are round.

Easily "Into The West". I still get goosebumps and sometimes teary when I hear it. After that it would be "May It Be".

Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

Agree with Jamie, same order too.

Same here. "Into the West" (especially knowing the story of the young man it was written for) is an absolutely beautiful and moving song. I also love the Shore music afterwards. (Not so much Enya; I burned out on her a decade before these movies, but it's still better than Gollum's Song.)

Frankly, none of the "Hobbit" music has particularly moved me like so much of the trilogy score. IMO "Lighting of the Beacons" is one of the most moving pieces of music I've ever heard, and there's a lot more I could name!

Do you hate me because I have no avatar? Do you even give a damn?

Couldn't agree more. The music alone still induces a strong emotional response. Coupled with the sequence in the film, it is almost unbeatable.

" I See Fire"

I feel pretty evil, but it cracks me up, it just sounds like the poor dwarves are SO screwed "And if the night is burning, I will cover my eyes.." makes me think of them covering their eyes and thinking "maybe if I can't see the big bad dragon, he can't see me." ...*shakes head* nope, nope... sorry to break it to ya... he can totally see you... you are SO toast...

And I just have Smaug rampaging around in my head all "RAWR!!!" and *FOOOOOOM*!!! "MmMm... dwarves... nom nom nom..."

...I do feel bad... but it feels so good... sorry, not sorry. XD

Probably Song of the Lonely Mountain.

Agreed. There are two others, both from ROTK, that I find even more powerful. The first is the triumphant blast of the Gondor theme as Gandalf and Pippin gallop up Minas Tirith - again, coupled with what's occurring on screen, it's mesmerising.

The second is probably the most moving piece of music Shore has written, and it's the solo flute by Sir James Galway that kicks in as we watch Frodo and Sam crawl up Mount Doom, shortly after we've just watched the Black Gate open. Something about that little melody, set against the pounding march of the music from events at the Morranon, just tick all boxes for me. Coupled with what happens as we hear it, it's perfect.

The only other piece of music in all LOTR that I find as stirring is the music that begins when the Fellowship see Gandalf let go on the bridge - both times, i.e. in FOTR and TTT. Awesome, awesome music.

The above pieces are the ones I still go back and listen to, even now.

I rank 'Into the West' and 'May It Be' equally on top. I like the songs for different reasons.
One is emotional about death and resurrection.
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away...

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass
The other about personal salvation.
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home...

Believe and you will find your way
From this lofty perch the other credits songs are quite a distance below imo.

- 'Song of the Lonely Mountain' is probably the best tune of what's left. But I prefer how it is simply sung in the scene in the Shire.
The end credits arrangement with the 'ay ay ay ay' accompaniment hurts the melody from my taste.
- 'Gollum's Song' has grown on me over the years so that now I'm able to actually listen to it and enjoy it.
It's an unusual performance by Emiliana Torrini which I appreciate more.
- 'I See Fire' has never had much of an impact on me. It's pleasant in the background but nothing more imo.

BB ;-)

it's just in my opinion - imo -
