Should J.J. Abrams reboot The Lord of the Rings?
And rescue us from the CGI prequels?

Not Lord of the Rings, but maybe the prequels.
Maybe someone can do a fan edit of the Hobbit films?

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈
It's now thirty years after the Grey Havens. Something evil is rising in the east.
After Aragorn's funeral, his son patrols the forest, killing orcs ... and there he runs into Gandalf, who believes a new fellowship needs to be formed to confront Gollum, who survived the fiery pit because he was wearing the ring, and who now has become almost as powerful as Sauron.
During their meeting, Samwise shows up with his son, Frodo, who has become a young warrior.
... I'll write up the script and take lunch with the Weinsteins, maybe we can make a few billion out of this ... (biggrin]

Please please please don't push this idea with anyone connected with JJ; you know someone will be willing to buy it!
Ahem. But we know that Sauron isn't really dead, he's just so reduced that he can never regain any of his power...or so we think. It is now 5,000 years after the War of the Rings. A Southron (or whatever they call themselves today,) a real Sauron worshipper (dare we call it the Dark Side?) and having learned the secret of forging the Rings (papers found in the ruins of Barad-Dur in a 2005 excavation inspired by Return of the King) is daring to make another ring that will restore The Dark Lord. Somehow, descendants of all the main characters find each other (Valaric inspiration?) and form a new Fellowship somewhere in London, true site of Hobbiton.
Will Indiana Jones be in this one?
Do NOT let Spielberg see this, indy!

Well there is a ready made Tolkien prequal that has some great stories ready to be told.............the Silmarillion. Its a pretty good book once you get past the poetry, music and language rubbish at the beginning.
I'm fancying Tarantino's Silmarillion.
To answer this question seriously, J.J. Abrams does not have a track history of leaning towards this type of Fantasy movie making and he loves CGI over most traditional forms of film making,,,It would look like a Hobbit in a Star Trek uniform.
'There's no way Peter Jackson will direct a movie of "The Silmarillion" while Christopher Tolkien is alive or while the rest of the Tolkien family, and Christopher's own children, respect his wishes. It's hard to say the movie is impossible, but it faces hurdles far, far higher than these other two trilogies had to deal with.

There are actually alot of pretty good Tolkien inspired books, series like the Forgotten Realm 'Icewind Dale Trilogy' by R.A. Salvatore which would make some really good Hollywood style Tolkienesque Block busters...
Why not go there for our Tolkien fix????
The Silmarillion might be a big headache to wade through?
