Time to film the parody?

The Harvard Lampoon put out a hilarious parody of the trilogy in the late 1960s called 'Bored of the Rings,' and it's one of the funniest things I've ever read. It's not insulting to the original material, either (at least, I didn't think so).

I think it would make a great animated film. Anybody else familiar with the book? Does anybody think the LoTR fans would turn out to watch it?

With some updates in references I think it could work. For instance, how many today know what a Roi-Tan is?

But I agree it's a hilarious book. I still, like the Nazdrul, laugh until tears roll down my cheeks during Arrowroot, son of Arrowshirt's (Stomper's) confrontation with them.

That's a good point; Bored of the Rings does contain a lot of dated references that modern audiences wouldn't get.

The re-print of the book ruined my favorite joke: Bromosel's foretold death: "Five-eleven's your height, one-ninety's your weight. You cash in your chips around page eighty-eight."

When they put out the re-print, he no longer died on page 88.

A film version of Bored of the Rings would be funny.

Maybe Family Guy will parody Lord of the Rings.

I'd rather see it done as a comedy.
