Are you including the Hobbit or just Lord of the Rings?
If it was just Lord of the Rings vs Star Wars OT, I'd go with Lord of the Rings, as all three films are equally as good as each other whilst Return of the Jedi is not as good as New Hope and Empire by some distance.
If youre including all the films made thus far I’d still vote for the world created by Tolkien over the Buck Rogers inspired adventures. There’s so much more depth to Middle-earth.
The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions with Tolkien's novel as a reference?
No film science fiction or fantasy trilogy can match that including the Star Wars OT or any 3 Harry Potter films.
(The Matrix trilogy / any 3 of the Alien movies fall even further below that.)
Also Star Wars has gotten worse with Lucas' tinkering with the Special Editions. The lack of an official release of the theatrical cut for the OT hurts the quality of the films imo.
