Palpatine was the main character in the prequels

When you think about it, it makes sense. it's his plot, it's his story. The Revenge of the Sith and a new order to the Republic.

However, it's awkward when the main character isn't the hero much less on "a hero's journey." So, as such, he is an essential non-main character, perhaps the deuteragonist.

Nope. It's Padme. The trilogy is about Padme and her tragic love affair with an unstable man. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Palpatine was the puppetmaster, pulling the strings, all for power..."UN-LIMITED POWAHHHHH!!!!!" But, I agree with the others, to more humanize than demonize the prequel trilogy, it needed to be a love story too, so the heart, the core of the prequel trilogy was Anakin and Padme's ill-fated, tragic love story. The prequel story as a whole in general was about the eternal struggle between love and POWAHHHHH!!!!!

Obi wan kenobi was the main character in the trilogy. The prequels are about his failure with training anakin.
