Rogue One

Have you guys seen the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One?
It looks kind of cool, and I like how there will be a Star Wars movie where it focuses on the Rebel pilots. It's a breath of fresh air.
However, I'm not always too fond of prequels because, unless they show the impact those previous events had on future installments, as well as the return of, at least, some of the new characters introduced in those previous events, then I think that their reason to exist is simply just to make another installment of a certain franchise just to win more money knowing that fans will watch it either way.
Which is why I'm now hoping that, at least, the main character of Rogue One appears in Star Wars episode VIII or IX, or even both, as an old woman.
What are your thoughts?

The reason for prequels to exist, and the reason they MAKE money, is because they're interesting stories that you haven't seen yet. They're like movies about history, like the Titanic sinking, the Civil War, the fall of the Roman Empire, Jesus' crucifiction, etc. Even though you know how these events turn out, you may not know all the specific little mechanations of HOW and WHY these events turned out the way they did, and you haven't SEEN them, visually illustrated, in great detail. We know Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star. But we haven't SEEN that yet. There's room for story and character exploration in there.

I'm all for prequels, or in-between-quels, like this movie is, if they're interesting stories, and this looks like a very interesting story.

Yeah, I too would be interested to see at least some of the characters from Rogue One turn up in Episode IX as old people, even though the "main" episodes are not their story, it's not about them, it's about Rey, Finn, Poe and the surviving veterans from the classic IV-VI trilogy. For all we know, like the Bothan spies in ROTJ, all these characters we're about to see in Rogue One get KILLED getting those plans to the Death Star. Let's wait and see how the story turns out before thinking that far ahead, shall we?

Have you guys seen the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One?I have seen the first trailer. 'Rogue One' looks as if it will be an awesome film.

I think, even if it is not part of the episodic saga, Rogue One will still be very much relevant to the episodic saga. The appearance of any of the characters from this film in future Episodes might be a nice tie-in, but it is not necessary for my enjoyment of the entire saga.

Personally, one way or another, for better or worse, I'm excited for Rogue One....

Don't get me wrong though...

I know it could very well disappoint me like Ep. 7 did... or even worse, like the prequels.

BUT!... I choose to stay optimistic and hope for the best. And while I continue to keep my fingers crossed? I also continue to count down to the movie with retrospective reviews of the others that came before it on my podcast show The Fickle Fanboy...

And personally?

I can't believe I lived through watching the prequels again...... yikes were they bad in comparison to all the others!

I am excited. No doubt.

More than I was for The Force Awakens which turned out much better than I anticipated. So I hope it's not a total reverse of that situation.
