What was the point of Darth Vader anyway?

The Emperor, with the protection of his Red Imperial Gaurd, ruled the empire along with his Grand Moffs governing certain territories. The Emperor, I assume, was commander in chief of the Imperial Armed Forces which had its own power structure.

Why did he need Vader?

reply

Vader is his muscle. While the emperor stays on corusant making up new rules and stuff, Vader is out eliminating the last of the Jedi.

I believe Sidious kept Vader around as a minion so that he could stew in his own self hatred at the terrible choice he made. Rather than casting Vadeer aside and given him a reason to wreak revenge on him

To hunt down the remaining Jedi and to scare the crap out of the senate and military top dogs so they wouldn't try a coup.

He also had no choice. If he didn't keep Vader around as his lackey, he'd either turn on Palpatine or slip back towards the light side. So what option did he have, really? The Emperor might even have been scared to attempt to get rid of Vader. Don't forget how powerful he was.

The way both of them operated, it is like each one needed the help of a third party to get rid of the other, out of fear of failure or out of fear of losing control of the Empire.

1. Vader was an essential part of the Emperor's control of affairs pertaining to the Force.

2. Vader was the Emperor's most powerful servant and most committed pupil.

3. Vader was next in the line of succession in the Emperor's religion organization.

4. Vader was possibly also heir apparent to the Empire overall, kind of like a prince.

5. Vader was considered a best friend by the Emperor, almost like a "heterolifemate".

6. Vader was the key to preventing the Emperor from being killed by an anonymous messiah.

The Emperor, with the protection of his Red Imperial Gaurd, ruled the empire along with his Grand Moffs governing certain territories. None of which would be enough to protect him from a Jedi.

Vader was his strongest servant. Him going around tearing shít up and invoking fear into everyone, is essentially just an extension of The Emperor himself.

He does Sidious' work and bidding without question.

As an example, it's like Morgoth of Middle-earth with his strongest servant Sauron.

Morgoth orders, Sauron does it.

Or Sauron with *his* strongest servant, the Witch-king of Angmar.

The Emperor orders, Vader does it.

It's like the saying: They're opposite sides of the same coin.

*scratches head* I *think* that's how the saying goes.
