Hermione's torture - book vs movie
Which one do you think was more effective?
I'm going to say book.

Book. The movie's version was not nearly as horrific as I pictured it when reading the book.
shareBook. The movie loses Ron's reaction which is half of the horror
To you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it?
Book. The movie version fails to show the desperation Harry and especially Ron felt while Hermione was being tortured.
shareI agree with everyone here. The book was extremely horrific. The movie lacked any emotion from Ron and Harry, which was disappointing. Also, the scene turned into a comedy with everyone just stopping and looking up at Dobby, about to drop a chandelier on them. The Malfoy Manor scene in the film was awful, which is a tragedy as that was one of my favorite chapters in Deathly Hallows.
shareI love the scene in the movie, but I guess I'll say book, mainly because a lot of it in the movie was off-screen. Although there's no denying Emma Watson did a great job in the scene. I read once that she portrayed it so realistically they had to stop filming the scene to make sure she was actually OK.
shareI agree, and I remember reading the same thing. Emma and Helena did an awesome job, but the bit of her "being tortured" is maybe 10-15 seconds, and I didn't like how little Harry and Ron reacted while down in the dungeon. As another poster said, upon first reading, Malfoy Manor was the chapter that made me start liking the book, and I think parts of it could have been done better in the movie.
shareYeah, I agree that Emma and HBC did great, it was actually kind of shocking the first time I saw it. But I think their performances were a little bit wasted with the lack of real anxiety and panic in the dungeon portion, and the comedic tone with Dobby and Pettigrew.
