Do you prefer when games lock you in at a difficulty level?

Or where you can switch it on the fly? The one thing I like about having it locked in is it gives you the will to carry on and try to beat a particularly hard part, because you don't want to have to start over. There's been times where I've died repeatedly in a certain part, just said fck it and turned the difficulty down just for that section, and then beat the game after that on the higher difficulty. But it just doesn't feel quite the same, even if it'll still give you the trophy for the higher level which some games do.

Games with one difficulty setting are usually pretty confident in themselves. I rarely have a problem with it.

I'd much rather be locked in at the difficulty I chose at the start of the game. For me flipping back and forth is kind of tantamount to cheating. Can't make it passed this session? Let me just switch to the easiest setting, dumb down that AI to the level of a rock, and make it through on a tainted victory! Don't feel like having to try that hard to beat this boss? I'll just make it so the boss is easier than 90 percent of the rest of the game for a while... It just seems like switching back and forth is a tool for the lazy, or the uncommitted. No offense meant of course. It just feels like a gaming faux pas. to me. Like save scumming.

Generally the only times I've want to lower the difficulty are for games that I'm growing bored of and just want to get to the end. I usually can't force myself to just stop playing a game unless I really don't like it.

I like that that feature exists, but have only ever used it once. I play every game on the medium or normal setting on the first playthrough. If I ever found it to be way too difficult, it'd be cool to be able to switch it...I've just never had too...

The one time I used the feature was on the first Infamous. It just sucked and I wanted to finish it because I try to finish the games I start. It wasn't worth much effort though. So I switched it to easy and got pretty far but still quit before the end...

According to me, yes. I am the person it's usually according to when I'm talking.

I prefer to have the option as more options are better. That being said, I don't mind unlocks and trophies being locked out.

Switching it is better because I am a p ussy and call of duty whoops my ass sometimes.

It's good that the option exists because it separates the kind of person who attacks challenges head-on until overcoming them, from the kind of person who looks for the easy way out in life.
