Resident Evil VII: Biohazard single player

It was frustrating at first, but the charm really rubbed off on me by the end. Definitely a step in the right direction for the series.

I might consider buying it then trying out the πŸ†“ "Not A Hero" DLC coming up.

Why was it frustrating? Not knowing when to kill the enemies? Do you get the hang of knowing when to run or when to attack?

I mention my early frustrations here:

Enemy feedback when fighting bosses is continuously a problem. Even when I was fighting the last boss, I didn't know if I was damaging it or not. But the action picks up after the second boss and the game plays largely normally afterwards.

I'm mixed feelings on it. It feels like a blend of alot of different horror games EXCEPT Resident Evil.

And what was up with it turning in to F.E.A.R towards the end.

I think it felt like Resident Evil in the end. The turning emulated the tank controls. My frustrations with Jack-Garage are similar to fighting Yawn and Plant 42 for the first time. Player feedback has always been touch and go in RE-- they're still one of the few games where I count how many times I hit a boss to gauge how much health it has. It's extra bad in this game, since they're so scripted that the grenade launcher and magnum don't even properly come into play, but now that I've endured the first playthrough, I can just enjoy the game for its thick atmosphere and ignore the bullsht. If you skip watching the video tapes, it helps the pacing a lot and removes 90% of the Outlast nonsense.

FEAR feels like Akira with guns. This felt more like Kojima ghost wrote some of this after getting fired from PT.

It's about a bio-weapon called Evel-lin
Who crashes into a residence
And turns its owners evil
Also she looks like she's about VII years old

Probably some of the most clever writing in the entire series tbh

What are these goofy effects?

If you must blink, do it now.

reply

Effects was the wrong word, I should have said "gimmicks." I'm referring to the constant use of things pointing and or stabbing directly at the screen like an old school gimmicky 3D movie, which I'm sure are only there for the VR.

reply

It's not constant though, it happens maybe 3 times in the beginning and then you don't see it ever again. Even then it makes sense, VR or no VR you're playing in first person and people with knives are trying to stab you. Which way should they be pointing the knife? Left? Up?

I think it felt very, very Resident Evil. I've finished almost all of them and played every one I can get my hands on and this feels very much like a Resi game, just in first person and with a scaled back story
