Thank you to everyone who started or contributed to lots of good threads

.
Thank you to all of our "regs" who started or contributed to lots of good threads here on the Books board. Out of all the Main Boards that were active, this board was the nicest, had the nicest users, and the nicest and friendliest threads. We didn't really have any/many trolls, and I only put one or two people on ignore (mostly for just posting way too much idiotic stuff that cluttered the board).

Anyway, thank you to everyone who ever started or hosted a good thread, or gave a book review or recommendation, or posted an interesting article, or helped somebody along with information or a friendly word. You all know who you are.

I will miss you.

angelofvic, you should join the new IMDB.

I get melancholy if I don't write. I need the company of people who don't exist.

Which one? I've seen at least a half dozen of them so far, and they all have no protection against trolls, and are advertised/created by brand-new IMDB accounts that no one knows anything about.

If someone reputable (like one of the regs here) started a forum on books, and didn't let anybody in except other Books board regs and people they recommended, I would join that. But I'm not going to join an unmoderated board created by a no-name that's already filling up with trolls. I've had my fill of trolls and stalkers. I've had three malicious stalkers in the 11 years I've been on IMDB.

I'll remind the writers here that Absolute Write, http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forum.php, is a site where you can talk writing with other writers. There are people there who are more about reading than writing, so serious readers might find it a useful spot to visit as well. Novelists are always after beta readers--you could be first to see a really great book.

What I like about the site is its moderation. A lot of the goings-on at far too many IMDb boards would have been stopped way before they got as bad as they are. Bans tend to stick, unlike here where troublemakers just start a new account. Some people consider that level of moderation too strict, but AW does not have trolls or flame wars. They do have spirited discussion and sometimes anger, but users are expected to attack the argument, not the person making it, and to back up any claims they make.

You can, of course, check it out without joining, viewing the dozens of public boards.

P.S. This is how part of the alphabet would look if you eliminated Q and R
