20th & 19th century Italian literature

Any recommendations ?

Currently reading Moravia's 'Chochara', and just finished Time of Indifference). Some years ago read Contempt and Boredom

Liked 'Leopard' by Lampedusa a lot, and Zeno's Conchiense by Svevo.

From Calvino I remember 'If on a Winter Night a Traveler' well, don't recall his other novels as well). Would like to get into his collection of fairy tales.

AGOSTINO by MORAVIA was quite erotic.

I get melancholy if I don't write. I need the company of people who don't exist.

Think in the first place of,

"The Betroweth" by Alessandro Manzoni.
(Widely considered the best Italian novel written during the 19th century.)

"Kaputt" by Curzio Malaparte
(On the backyard of WWII.)

"History" by Elsa Morante

"Fontamara" by Ignazio Silone

"Inshallah" by Oriana Fallaci

"The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco

"Donau" by Claudio Magris

youve got to read the story "Gogol's Wife" by Landolfi, if you haven't heard of it, you can read the story in its original US publication right here:
