Why would they shelf a project that could potentially be another franchise for DreamWorks? It may not be as big as Shrek or How to Train Your Dragon, but it did will at the box office. It also did well with critics and was nominated for an Oscar. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm a little saddened by it. This is the second time Chris Sanders had a film removed from him. From what I've read, the project seemed to have had story problems hence hiring screenwriters to rewrite the script after the release date was pushed back. Probably, it wasn't enough to salvage the project. With that said, DreamWorks Animation is likely undergoing more corporate restructuring with a satellite studio based in India perhaps being closed down. That's interesting. The first film had story problems, too. In fact, it took ten years to come about because of story problems.

I'm saddened by the news of said production being shut down despite a couple year's worth of ACTUAL production was done on the project.
I wonder how much of their decision had to do with scheduling conflicts with the original A-list actors like Nicholas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, et al... regarding their respective voice acting sessions and their already busy production schedule.
Perhaps they choose to not replace these famous actors with lesser known actors?

Well that sucks. I thought the Croods were one of the great cartoons that deserve a sequel. I still laugh thinking about Grug getting struck by lightning.
