The Supreme Court has had only eight justices for nearly a year, since Justice Antonin Scalia's unexpected death. The Court normally consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight associate justices who are nominated by the President. However, the court currently has eight justices and one vacancy after the February 2016 death of Justice Antonin Scalia. The current nominee to fill Justice Scalia's seat is Neil Gorsuch, who was named by President Donald Trump Tuesday night at the White House.
