ANSWERED: What is IMDb's policy for image deletion?

As in, what are the criteria that justify an image being deleted?

I ask because I've had several images that I've uploaded that have been deleted and I do not see a reason why they would be.

One of these images I had added for a poll suggestion on the IMDb Poll Board, and the entire suggestion revolved around this one image. It has since been deleted, and the poll suggestion looks in tatters as a result. The frustrating thing is that I can't find this image online again.

It was a still from the movie. It had no watermark. It had no nudity etc In other words, there was no reason why it should have been deleted. This is one of numerous examples.

Would anyone be able to explain as to why this might have happened?

reply

Would depend on the image I'd imagine. Without seeing it I can't comment.

Hi The-Social-Introvert,

Like moviesxxx says it is dependent on the image. If you have an image ref or a specific example I can take a look.

This particular example I'm talking about was similar to this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106582/mediaviewer/rm1452948224

Except without the border.

As you can see there is no nudity or profanity on display, and the quality of the image was good. So I have no idea why it was removed.

There was also another image, more of a close up of the face of the guy on the right. Both of these images were essential to a poll suggestion I had made, and now I can't find these images online.

Hi The-Social-Introvert,

Without seeing the image it is hard to tell, the only slight issue is the border and the image quality but this image looks ok. Did the image go live in the first place? it is possible that another user deleted the image from the title.

Hi

Yes two images were up and live for several months.

it is possible that another user deleted the image from the title.

That's what I think happened which brings me back to my initial question as to what exactly the requirements are for a deletion submission to be accepted, seeing as though there was nothing in the images to warrant a deletion.

Again without seeing the image it is difficult to say, was there a duplicate image in the photo view on the title of a better quality?

reply

Nope. My image was the first and only one of its kind and there was no replacement of a better quality. In fact, the above image I showed you (the one with the border) was uploaded by me to show as an example. That one is a far worse image because the quality is poorer and it has a border (which doesn't appear in the film and thus the image isn't a real still). If there's any image that warrants a deletion, it's that one.

Hi The-Social-Introvert,

An image can deleted for numerous reasons but mostly if it is of poor quality, it is a duplicate, it isn't valid as it breaches policy or it is incorrectly assigned to the title/name page.
