ANSWERED: Cannes Film Festival posters etc : Can we include them?

I love the Cannes Film Festival posters, here f.e.:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Cannes_Film_Festival
They are small masterworks of graphic design.

Would it be possible to create a pic/gallery for every year of an A-film festival?

We could start with adding only the official annual event posters of Cannes/Venice/Berlin/Locarno...

If you have more time & resources, you could extend the feature for all official pictures of the festivals & user uploads?

I think this could become a very popular feature for the film festivals, visitors & users.

Imagine: You go to Cannes, meet Marion Cotillard, talk her into a selfie, then upload it to IMDB...wow!

This would create a very dynamic IMDB.

And it has huge potential for growth, because there are hundreds of film festivals worldwide every year.

What do you think?

I don't see where they'd belong.

Right, there isn't any special place for festival pictures at the moment.

They need their own gallery: Every annual A-festival event at least.

It would be a new feature with a lot of potential.

It would need some changes to the database and to the user interface to allow them to be stored on the pages for each festival and to allow us to add/remove them

I suspect that that would be quite a lot of work

You don't need to do everything at once.

You could create these A-festival galleries step-by-step.
Maybe start with the annual official posters?

But if you invest more time & resources into this:
I have a feeling it could be seriously BIG.

There is an army of hobby photographers out there with smart phones
who can deliver HQ pics & video.

All they want to do is sharing their stuff with the world.
You have the most amazing content providers for free at the red carpets.
It only needs a new feature.

It could become a major feature for IMDB:
There are many, many festivals and millions of visitors...

All they do is taking pics like crazy:
Give them a new, film-specific forum.

It might be worth posting as an idea at Get Satisfaction.

A poster gallery may be something for IMDb editors to make as there may be copyright issues.

The other idea of a feed of users' own image is cool. I guess it could also be an Instagram-based feed.

I don't know much about the legal problems, but I doubt that there are any when it comes to the Official Posters
of A-Film Festivals.

You have to remember that these festivals are always in a competition between each other.
Therefore they will use ANY opportunity to get more public attention.
Galleries of their artwork at IMDB are free marketing.

I made a quick online search: You can find f.e. most of the Cannes posters easily in HQ online.

I bet, if we write the organizers, they will send IMDB even rare posters for free,
if they are not already available online.

After the official posters are up, the next step could be, that IMDB asks the festival organizers for permission
to feature all their other official materials online in a specific gallery.

I'm thinking especially about the fantastic pictures that are created every year at the Berlinale:
They are great as profile pics, too:

The last step could be the user generated content.
Of course, there are a few legal issues.
But it has great potential.

These are just a few ideas, feel free to be inspired or not ;-)

Thanks.
