ANSWERED: Certification Additions

Could the following be added to the Australian certification listings: E, MA, R, X, Revoked.

A listing for Australasia:E exists but it really should be Australia:E

R, X needs to be covered for titles classified in the 70's and 80's.

Revoked needs to be added for titles that have had certifications withdrawn by the OFLC.

Hi there,

Many thanks for flagging this.

Having looked into your request it appears that we once did support these historic ratings but they were removed at the request of a few of our prolific Australian contributors as they were no longer possible to verify.

It seems that the official Australian Classification board ceased to keep records of the historic ratings, replacing them all with the current incarnations instead. For example titles certified in the 70s and 80s, which would have been rated NRC (not recommended for children) upon release are now showing as PG on the official site.

One of our contributors detailed this far more eloquently on this GS thread here https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/problem-with-australian-film-ratings-certification?topic-reply-list[settings][filter_by]=all&topic-reply-list[settings][reply_id]=15780139#reply_15780139

As they point out, this had led to inconsistent usage across titles, old and new alike, and although it contradicts our preference for historic data, in this case it was deemed in the interests of our users and contributors to deprecate the older ratings.

We would be more than happy to revisit this decision if you are aware of a reliable resource which can be used to verify these? If not, due to the previous widespread misuse, we would prefer to keep these listings as they are to avoid further confusion.

Many thanks again.

Jay

Regarding the NRC, A, and SOA ratings, as you mention they're not listed on the Australian Classification Boards website, its more difficult to submit those on imdb without going through old movie posters.

MA, R and X are actually still listed on the Australian classification board website but you have to click onto the movie entry for example. Get Carter from 1971 is listed as just rated R http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/View.aspx?sid=Aesj5RqRzJzwLbyqvFHr%2bw%253d%253d&ncdctx=IbxIMlfD7PVNNHArew03D92iFK0BVnO1alKr4qcsZeQb1IQCV3I21pHFVo3j6UCo.

MA, R, X although are missing from the websites search bar, but selecting R 18+ will get you combined results all the same. Its only when you click onto the title, for example pre-2005, the actual page for the classified title will be listed as MA, R, and X.

Not everyone will understand this, which is probably what led to the mix up/incorrect submissions.
