As far as I can tell, you need alot of money to spare. If you don't have that, then just some money to spare.

People skills are very important, Producers deal with people people people.

You can not see through The Tunnel Of Doom.

I don't know where you are from, but at The National Film School of Denmark, there's a Producer-line.
But start from the button, as a runner or some assistants assistant :-)

Quite right, I hate when people think they can just walk in one day and work as the top of a department without doing their time. The very fact that you dont know what a producer is shows your total unsuitability to be one.

damn, sburt. you are one tough person.

just because someone asks questions about starting a career doesn’t make that person totally unsuitable to learn. Which is all the original poster was asking.

I’m sure there was a time when you know less than you know now. how did YOU learn?

reply

Excellent response. i’m not convinced that the original poster was asking how to start at the top. it’s too bad no one here was willing to show him/her the first steps.

I started at the bottom rung of the ladder.

and it sounds like you would be a great person to assist.

Again i say it, you wouldnt walk into an industry you know nothing of and expect to be able to be the Chairman of the board straight away.

but many people DO come to these boards asking for help. i’m not suggesting you are required to help, but a little understanding and symthapy for someone starting out is sadly lacking in this business.

you seem to have made it. i just think it would be great if you, a successful, working producer would help the newbees on the boards rather than get upset because you hear it everyday.

they (we) DON’T hear it everyday.
