Best of 2011 (so far)

So, what's everybody's opinion of 2011 so far? While there have been quite a few disappoints so far (Scream 4, Cowboys & Aliens, The Green Lantern, Pirates 4, no vintage Powell or Tyler), there have been even more surprises. I would have never guessed that Alexandre Desplat would write two scores that I really love, that, with four excellent scores, Patrick Doyle would be this year's John Powell and that Chris Young would write everybody's favorite score of the year.

My top 10 so far would probably be:

1, Priest - Christopher Young
2, Harry Potter 7.2 - Alexandre Desplat
3, Soul Surfer - Marco Beltrami
4, Rise of the Planets of the Apes - Patrick Doyle
5, Jig - Patrick Doyle
6, A Better Life - Alexandre Desplat
7, La Ligne Droite - Patrick Doyle
8, Captain America - Alan Silvestri
9, Thor - Patrick Doyle
10, Fast Five - Brian Tyler

No Priest, Eumenidies? Huh. Anyways, here's my list so far, although the order is rapidly changing with every listen.

1) Priest
2) Arriety: The Borrower (almost not fair, since most of them are delightful songs, but whatever, still the most enjoyable soundtrack so far for me)
3) Mars Needs Moms
4) Thor
5) Soul Surfer
6) Rise of the Planet of the Apes
7) Captain America
8) Transformers 3
9) Space Battleship Yamato (if this only counts as 2010, then it would be Battle LA)
10) Your Highness

I don't understand the attraction of Priest. I thought it was an awful action score.

1. Your Highness (I know, I have a disease when it comes to Remote Control... and the cheesier it is, the more I like it!)

2. Thor
3. Captain America
4. Super 8
5. Pirates
6. Fast Five
7. X-Men
8. Soul Surfer
9. Battle Los Angeles
10. Mars Needs Moms

So far, Brian Tyler's the only guy on there twice, though I am literally listening to Planet of the Apes AS I write this, and I think Patrick Doyle's going to have to bump somebody.

And holy crap, do we really get TWO John Williams scores this year? Yeah, I reckon this list will be a'changin...

No Transformers? Or haven't you heard that one yet?

Can't wait to hear those two. Also cool that they are two different types of Williams score, an action/adventure one and a serious, dramatic one.
