The Lone Ranger scored by...

...Jack White.

Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinksi have apparently hired Jack White to score The Lone Ranger. Unusual choice, but I'm curious.

In the meantime all the geeks over Film Score Monthly and Filmtracks are crying outrage about how White is rock star and no real composer (forgetting that Elfman, Newton-Howard, Rabin, Revell, Zimmer and probably quite a few more started their career in rock music as well)

It is funny how they hate the "rock star" thing, mostly because of Santaolalla and Reznor/Ross' success at the Oscars, while forgetting that all of those ones you mentioned started like that too (and don't forget Clint Mansell!)

Interesting choice...not something that personally revs my engine, because I can only imagine what a great Western Lone Ranger score could sound like, and this news makes me think of the Jonah Hex soundtrack (shudder). But who knows, could be fun!

wait I thought he was just doing one song and someone else was scoring the rest? must have read wrong

but don't worry about the snobs of the filmmusic world, they hate anything different and apparently forget that filmmusic isn't orchestral music but just any form of music period as long as it supports what's going on the screen on internally in the characters.

Heck is where you go to if you don't believe in Gosh
