What do you think of my...

..latest song? I just finished my second "album".

Explanation in a nutshell: I compose original movie score sort of music. I have bad sounds. I'd like to get some feedback about my composing skills. Any kind of comments are appreciated. I don't spend too much time on recording, mixing etc. now that I still have the bad sounds I'm using and I can't make the songs sound the way I want them to sound anyway. The idea is to show you my composing skills and song ideas, melodies and that kind of stuff.

Here's the latest song: http://soundcloud.com/matiasauramo/imagination

I recommend using good earphones/headphones. That's how I record them so that's how it sounds the closest to the way it does while I'm recording.

You can find all of my songs that I've recorded so far on the same account (link also in my signature). The list "Last Seen" includes songs I made for my graduation project short film last winter. The list "The Mirror Room: 100% Humid" includes newer songs I started recording this summer.

Please spend some time listening to my scores and give me some feedback!
Thanks!

I'll start by admitting that I'm not a music person at all.

I liked the song, but it's a little "flat," if that makes sense. It never goes anywhere emotionally. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because it depends on the scene the track goes with, but it makes it less interesting for just listening to. Good job, though, I can't imagine how much work goes into composing.

It also reminds me of another song, but I can't place it... This is going to drive me crazy.

Edit: Got it! It reminds me of Where We'll Go by Underground Music for some reason.

Thanks for your feedback!

I'd say the flatness is partly because of the bad sounds. I'm hoping to get these awesome sample libraries that I could re-record my songs with so I'd have something to compare to.

Also, like you said that it depends on the scene, now that I'm not scoring an existing movie or even a script I always picture some types of things or shots that would be shown during the song. Nothing particular and not for the whole song, I just start with something and then go on with the style it started. I hope that makes any sense

Anyway, thanks for listening. I really appreciate it! And sorry for my bad english

Just curious, is this done on a computer or with real instruments or both?

I record with a computer, playing everything on my keyboards and the sounds I use are midi (meaning they are not real). These libraries that I mentioned are single notes recorded with real instruments and that's why they are so expensive. They work the same way though, I choose the sound on my computer, play a note on my keyboard and it plays the sound that has been recorded to the program with real instrument.

So basically, everything is done with a real instrument (keyboard) but I just record different things with different sounds.

Maybe someday I can record everything with a real orchestra.. But that would require some really big works from me first, or just, you know, winning the lottery and paying them to play my songs even though I'm a nobody to them.

I see, that makes sense. Good luck with getting an orchestra and/or winning the lottery :)
