pacing

People always seem to talk about pacing in films but I've always found it a hard thing to quantify.

Do you have any scenes that you feel demonstrate good pacing or too slow/too fast. Or even any thoughts, I know there is a lot of practical experience on this board.

My opinion--for what it's worth--is that pacing is always linked with the type of story (events) being told. For instance, the pacing of All the President's Men is fast but not 'too' fast because the events are exciting, and the pacing of Lawrence of Arabia is sort of slow but not 'too' slow because it's so grand and epic.
Of course pacing can be very slow and not bother me, as in Once Upon a Time in the West, or where it does bother me, as in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
An example of moderate pacing which fits the story: The King's Speech.

Edit: By the way you should try the Shop Talk Writers board which is in fact described as a place to discuss the craft of screenwriting with other writers.

It's all about the emotive context of the scene and the style/theme/tonality of the film.

Understand this, and the script will follow - misunderstand this, and the scenes will disconnect the reader...
