Terrible movies you are surprised were made by a director you like

Has it ever happened that you watched a movie and thought "Oh God, this was TERRIBLE! Must be someone who doesn't know how to make a movie..." only to find out it's a director who has made good or even great movies? Heck, sometimes even one other movie which is good is enough to shock you.

Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2 - I really tried to get through them, but they almost bored me the *beep* to death! What were you thinking, Guy Ritchie???

WarGames - John Badman, the director of Saturday Night Never made WarGames... What? WHAT? That's a terrible movie!

Failure To Launch - Shanghai Noon is such a damn funny movie I watch every now and then, can't even remember how many times I've seen it! But then he goes on to make... Failure To Launch??? Excuse me?????? How can you go from a classic buddy cop western to a goddamn saccharine and poorly written romantic "comedy"?!

Femme Fatale - DePalma

"Just enjoy the movie, it has Tom Berenger." - Seymour Skinner

Casting ugly people is not smart.

Love Robert Altman, but Quintet was just awful... took days to cleanse my mind after that one.

you couldnt be more right about guy ritchie. sherlock 1 i gave up on half way through and couldnt watch 2. i think its a lazy director who does a project gets rich then puts almost no effort into some of their future work.man from uncle was better but dosent compare to the struggles and hard work of lock stock or snatch. i think the answer is when you really really want something you will knuckle down and do the best job you can, something this director hasnt done since.given the budgets he has available there really is no excuse.being a movie watcher myself who likes good storys and great acting and editing(not thrown together garbage that sells out for the disney chick fliks) i find that this is a sign of the modern times. basically if you want too see a directors best work. look no further than there first few projects.some directors break that rule and they are the great genius hard working ones.
