Your favourite directors

My favourite directors are:

Christopher Nolan - Paul Thomas Anderson - Nicolas Winding Refn - Wes Anderson

Fun fact: Nolan, PTA and Refn are all born in 1970.

But if there ever were to be a Mount Rushmore of directors it would consist of these pioneers.

Stanley Kubrick - Sir David Lean - Akira Kurosawa - Andrei Tarkovsky

...

So which ones are your favourites?

reply

Stanley Kubrick
Roman Polanski
Alfred Hitchcock
Steven Spielberg
Sergio Leone
Clint Eastwood
Quentin Tarantino
Brian de Palma
Martin Scorsese
Woody Allen
(Luis Bunuel, David Cronenberg and David Lynch - need to see more, but I expect them to be there)

I also like Nolan, Refn and James Cameron, but they don't quite make it to the "favourite" category.

Nice idea about Mt. Rushmore. I'd put those on it:
Stanley Kubrick - Alfred Hitchcock - Orson Welles - Ingmar Bergman

reply

Just seen Valhalla Rising. I think I'll add Refn. Cool guy.

reply

Since you enjoyed Valhalla Rising I would recommend you to watch Drive.
And if you into some really weird stuff go watch Only God Forgives.
It is dreamlike and surreal film and to me a mesmerising masterpiece.

reply

Yeah, I already watched those two and liked them, as well as Pusher. But I didn't think that anything else would hold up so well, especially as I was rather disappointed by Bronson.

Other directors I would add to my list are:

Steven Spielberg - Francis Ford Coppola - Clint Eastwood

Tim Burton - David Fincher - Brad Bird - Alfonso Cuarón

+ Derek Cianfrance - Spike Jonze

I think I am going to include David Lynch but I simply haven't watch his films as of yet but knowing he has been a big influence to Refn I am sure he will.
