Ot: Social media messes people up
share
As opposed to the intended purpose of bringing intellectuals, artists to the forefront, all social media has ever done is to increase the background noise of mediocrity and amateurishness in our lives. The worst parts of our lives these days probably annoying "comments section" and the concept of "shares/likes". It is going a take a heavy toll on the humanity.
Just for the record, intellectual discourse has always existed even before the concept of society and civilization even existed and even at times when there was no communication and has survived millennia without people liking or sharing it.

not bad. not bad at all my friend.
Why hang on to antiquated notions like "the soil is like my mother?" - Man

Well, I wouldn't deny that I was part of it a while back (still I am through IMDB) but I finally saw it right to shut down fb and I stopped reading news.
News always brought some tragic news or something negative. FB was worst of it. Hindus and Muslims are always fighting. People annoyed the crap out of me. Can't blame any one side. All sides are equally annoying. One of the girls of my class who was simple like a cow also started taking religion very seriously and I thought what the hell I am doing at fb. Have been much better without reading or watching news for last 7-8 months.

Well, it has put Trump in the most powerful office in the world. Guess you don't have to wait longer.
Who would have thought that this is what the internet would be all about?
20-25 years ago, they were saying that it would help discover Einsteins in Africa but it's mostly being used to sell things to us. Shame.
