Movies rejected by Amitabh

I remember reading an article which listed movies that were initially offered to Amitabh Bachchan but he refused them (for whatever reason). The ones I recall are:

Qurbani
Meri Jung
Mr. India
Parinda
King Uncle

Man, he sure must be regretting rejecting some of those as they went on to become huge hits and really catapulted their stars.

Does anyone remember any other movies that he rejected?

great thread. MARLON BRANDO rejected some real classics including BENHUR, BUTCH CASSIDY, FAT CITY and DELIVERANCE.

I get melancholy if I don't write. I need the company of people who don't exist.

Thank god he rejected Meri Jung. Then it would have been Nirupa Roy instead of Nutan.

Yes I am talking about Amitabh Bachchan. The movies catapulted the young stars but obviously they would have helped Amitabh remain at the top for longer. He was the biggest superstar in the 70s and early 80s but by the late 80s he was going downhill fast, mainly because he was still doing the same kind of movies that he had been doing for many years.

Instead of doing movies like Meri Jung, Mr.India, and Parinda, he chose to do movies like Toofan, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Jaadugar. He was fast being overtaken by the younger generation (Anil, Jackie, Sunny, Salman, Aamir). The highest grossing movies of the late 80s were Maine Pyar Kiya, Tezaab, Tridev, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Mr.India, Ram Lakhan etc. and not Bachchan's movies.

I'm sure you'll agree that staying at the top is just as difficult (if not more) than reaching the top. The movies I mentioned would have kept Amitabh at the top. Just because he was the biggest superstar does not mean that he could do terrible movies and still remain a superstar, a lesson he learned the hard way.

He reached the top and stayed there far longer than anybody else, considering how huge he was, utterly dominating during his peak. People say Rajesh Khanna was the biggest, but he was on top only for 4 years.

One can argue that he could have gone much further, but that's just theoretical. He already broke all records of longevity.

It's actually good he did not do all those films and other people found a chance to shine.

Yes he was, but don't you think he would have liked to stay there longer? Anybody would.

I'm sure that's what he would probably say if interviewed by some magazine, but that's probably not what he feels. Grapes are sour. At least many Hollywood actors are honest enough to admit it when they pass up a movie and it goes on to be very successful. Bollywood actors on the other hand are too proud to admit this.

how was King Uncle even in this list and how would it have catpaulted him or made him remain a star. When asked many years ago which was SRK's worst movie AB clearly said King Uncle. I doubt he regrets the decision at all.
