Baltic cinema

Two notable movies from Baltic states have came out in recent months, so maybe it deserves special thread.

1) Tõde ja Õigus (Truth and Justice) - premiered in 20th february in Estonia. It is based on the first volume of A. H. Tammsaare pentalogy, which is by a landslide most influential novel in countries history.

And Tanel Toom's (who has been Oscar-nominated for short film "The Confession) debut full-length film is dignified adaption, to put it mildly. It's already most-watched film at the opening weekends in Estonian cinema history. Critics and public (Imdb rating is 9,4) have called it greatest piece of cinema ever came out from Estonia (imho even better than Oscar-nominated "Tangerines"). So there are excepations, that it could win oscar for best foreign movie in 2020. The feedback has been actually so praising, that it's impossible to put it into words.

2) "Ashes in the Snow" from Lithuania is also worth seeing. Director Marius A. Markevicius made film in English with intention to "educate" American public about Soviet Union "achievements" during WWII. Quite depressing.
