Seeking Norwegian film recommendations

I don't tend to set myself 'quests' with regards to watching films... I am sidetracked much too easily, it never works. But I am thinking of embarking on a mini-mission to seek out some strong Norwegian films. Unless I'm missing something the cinema of Norway has never made as much of a mark as that of Sweden and Denmark... looking at my lists I've seen something like seven Norwegian features and a couple of shorts, that's it.

Please give me your recommendations and favourites! Any genre and era is welcome. If they're readily available online, all the better...

I have seen and rated:

8/10

Pathfinder (1987)

7/10

Oslo, August 31st (2011)
Benny's Gym (short, 2007)

6/10

The Man Who Loved Yngve (2008)
Kon-Tiki (2012)

5/10

Troll Hunter (2010)
Shipwrecked (1990)
Cut Paste (short, 2008)
Hawaii, Oslo (2004)

Hi there ...a couple of films I have seen recently and would highly recommend from the Classic Era...

Voted by Norwegian film critics in the top 5 best films ever... De dødes tjern, Lake Of The Dead (1958)... my rating 9/10

Six friends from Oslo have come to an isolated cabin that sits beside a lake in the Østerdalen forests in search of a missing brother, they learn from a local detective of a curse, an unexplained mystery, a possible ghost that haunts the lake and cabin. Speculation is rife, some of the group take the rational approach some believe in the supernatural...

A Film Noir first for Norway, Døden er et Kjærtegn, Death Is A Caress (1949)... my rating 8/10

Wealthy socialite Sonja meets handsome, muscular mechanic Erik when she drops off her car for repairs. Instantly attracted to each other, they break off relationships to be together and eventually marry... which is when of course the real problems begin.

Thank you very much for the recommendations! Lake of the Dead is on my watchlist and has been recommended a number of times, but I have not heard of Death is a Caress... both films look extremely interesting and I am looking forward to seeking them out - thanks again!

i second both and also suggest some ivo caprino ("reveenka" is fun)

Hodejegerna (Headhunters in english I think). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1614989/

It's about a guy trying to keep up his expensive living, and ends up in trouble because of it. Can't say much more, since I don't wanna spoil anything. Read a better caption on IMDb :) It was really good!

I have to suggest the Danish "pusher" even though you asked for Norwegian films... (There's a bad American version, don't watch that).

Being a troll isn't an excuse to be an *beep*

Hunger (1966)
Scandinavian co-production set in Norway

Kon-Tiki (1950)
The original documentary, better than the 2012 film

The Bothersome Man (2006)
Low-key, semi-dark magic realism

Edvard Munch (1974)
Great, unconventional biopic

Yes it is Headhunters, I came across that film by accident on TV and thought it was brilliant.

The only Norwegian film that springs to my mind at present is Dead Snow, very gory but good fun for Horror Comedy fans.

I have an inkling I saw the Kon-Tiki doc when I was a kid, probably in the 80s or so. Certainly, its a fascinating story and its one I'd like to see again.

The Others are of interest too - thanks for the recommendations!
