The Official Asian Drama Thread

I figure it would be nice to have a place to talk about TV dramas!

I'm watching the currently airing 'Shut Up Flower Boy Band' right now. It's a teen drama about an aspiring rock band of poor kids and there's quite a bit of the rich vs. poor stuff that I note in a lot of K-Drama. Enjoying it quite a bit so far and it took some turns unexpected for a K-Drama, at least from my limited experience.

Also watching City Hunter, just finished episode 4. Really good, and I love Lee Min-ho.

I've also seen Flower Boy Ramen Shop, Coffee Prince, and Boys Over Flowers.

Good idea for a thread!

Right now I'm watching Iljimae, which started off a bit slow but seems to be getting more and more entertaining with each passing episode.

I haven't seen any of the historical ones yet. Most of them seem to be very long though.

I've seen Boys before flowers and Cofee Prince, but I almost only watch historical Korean dramas. The negative thing about them is that they tend to drag on too long and they all have similar endings.

Yeah most of them seem to be incredibly long.

And speaking of that, I thought that even Boys Before Flowers dragged on too much.

Wow - thanks for that list! Which are your favorites?

I used to watch Taiwanese dramas years ago when they were broadcast on a local Chinese-language TV channel and I'm interested in seeing more now that they're easily available on DVD.

There was one that I saw from the late 1980's/early 1990's - a historical drama (late Qing?) about 3 brothers from a wealthy clan who fell in love with the same girl (I think she was a maid or servant). I can't recall the name of the series. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I haven't seen the drama you're talking about, but this sounds like it could be the one, except that they're cousins instead of brothershttp://wiki.d-addicts.com/Hong_Lou_Meng_(1987)

The more romantic teen dramas that I loved was Mars, The devil beside you, Meteor garden(the original Boys before flowers)Autumn's concerto and The outsiders.

Butterfly lovers is an old and very beautiful Chinese legend, similar to Romeo and Juliet. Princess returning pearl, Mischievous princess and Young warriors of the Yang clan are also good. They all have an historical setting.

If your're interested in Wuxia (not everyone is) I can recommend the Tearful sword, State of divinity, the four detectives and Heavenly sword and dragon sabre. The quality and special effects are not the best though.

"Hong Lou Meng" isn't the one I saw but it looks interesting. Thanks for checking it.

And thanks so much for all the other recommendations!
