Thoughts on the best Western since 'Open Range'?
I'm scratching my head.
'I'm serious as cancer when I say Rhythm is a Dancer'

It's unfortunate that two of the best candidates (3:10 to Yuma, True Grit) are remakes.
The Hateful Eight and The Revenant are true contenders.
I'm also a big fan of Seraphim Falls and Bone Tomahawk.

I think it has got to be:
Meek's Cutoff (2010) / Kelly Reichardt
Other Suggestions
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) / Andrew Dominik
Appaloosa (2008) / Ed Harris
The Proposition (2005) / John Hillcoat (even though it is set in Australia)
The Salvation (2014) / Kristian Levring
I greatly dislike the remakes “3:10 To Yuma” and “True Grit.” Also in my “dislike” column in “Django Unchained.” Mainly because of my aversion to “Django,” I have not cared to see “The Hateful Eight.”
I’m still thinking about “The Revenant.” A lot of good things about it but I had my thumb on the fast-forward scan button for much of the runtime.

Trust me. I’m The Doctor.
Appaloosa
The proposition
Bone tomahawk

After Open Rage (2003), my next favorite western is Broken Trail (2006) again with Duvall, kind of playing the same character more or less.
Aces N' Eights (2008) Is a pretty good western with a nice cast led by Ernest Borgnine.
Appaloosa (2008) is pretty good.
The Salvation (2014) is probably the last best formula western I've seen.
but yeah, Open Range is tough one to top so far.
I've read Diablo (2015) get some middling reviews but yet to see it myself.
I'm still waiting to see In a Valley of Violence (2016) - crossing my fingers Travolta and Ethan Hawke made a good one.
