Nice guy roles

I think one of my biggest pet peeves with romantic movies and TV shows is that they make it seem like the nice guy who excessively pursues a woman and acts like a borderline stalker eventually always gets the girl. This is just not the way it is in real life. You don't have to intentionally be an a-hole to get women. Women want to be treated well. However, guys need to have a backbone, be aggressive, have confidence, and be dominant sexually. Most of all, you can't be needy and put women on pedestals.

Are there any movies you can think of that show a realistic portrayal of how to get women without falling into the nice guy pushover or player stereotypes?

I'd hardly call Heathcliff a role model in how to get women. Actually I think the whole vengeful obsessive thing is would be a turn off in real life. Rhett Butler, does he really get the girl? She's infatuated with another guy the whole time she's with him. As for Darcy, I wouldn't say that acting aloof and arrogant is a good tactic...

As for "realistic" portrayals of how to get girls, I don't know if there's any such thing. Different behaviors will attract or repel different girls.

Newland Archer -Daniel Day Lewis in the Age of Innocence.

He was a great guy but not a stalker nor did have a plain personality, actually he was a very successful lawyer who gave his fiancé all freedom she needed and even tough when he felt in love with her cousin he never made her feel bad or inferior to the countess who was his soulmate.

Almasy played by Ralph Fiennes in the English Patient.
He really tried to respect Katherine's marriage to Geoffrey and actually he said he hatted ownership (so we know he is not a stalke) r but he just naturally felt in love with Katherine and their affair started because both wanted and both were attracted to each other since the beginning.

Have you seen Psych from USA Network-character's welcome channel? Psych features two buddie-men, Shawn and Gus who have their 8th season filming now. These two men are great showing the trials of trying to find their soul-mates. I love Shawn Spencer (James Roday) who ends up pursuing co-worker Detective Juliet O'Hara for 5 years and finally gets the relationship going. I think you might like it. Cheers.

Somewhere in Time (1980) is a romantic movie with a nice guy pursuing a woman, but I'm not sure how realistic it is!

Well the whole time travel element does restrict its realism somewhat! Plus is travelling back in time to meet someone you've only seen in a picture stalkerish? Since it's not something that happens that often I don't know what the "rules" are there!

If they had kept Rachael Leigh Cook as Shawn's girlfriend then that could have been a good romance but instead the producers chose to save money and use Maggie Lawson. I really disagree that it worked.
