HAMILTON Just Won the PULITZER!
Awesome news! I just had a feeling it might - and yet it's very rare for a musical to win. BIG congrats to all involved!

At about 10%, I wouldn't say VERY rare. But, yes not a common occurrence.
George and Ira Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing (1932)
Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific (1950)
Bock & Harnick's Fiorello! (1960)
Frank Loesser's How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1962)
Marvin Hamlisch, Ed Kleban, James Kirkwood, and Nicholas Dante's A Chorus Line (1976)
Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George (1985)
Jonathan Larson's Rent (1996)
Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt's Next to Normal (2010)
Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton (2016).
I have been actively looking to see Fiorello! for 10 yrs. I should add "Of Thee I Sing" to that list. Although, if it had played at any of the 130 (or so) local theaters I monitor I would have added it to my "want" list.

Thanks for the list! I didn't realize there were that many musicals. Those are all very impressive. I am a big RENT fan and will be seeing the 20th Anniversary tour in September. No word on Hamilton tour in DFW - but I know it is already on the schedule in San Francisco.

I have heard and really liked some of the songs from it.

And just today nominated for 16 TONY AWARDS!

Yep. Another record set. It will be interesting to see how many of those 16 it wins.
I admit I really hate it when one show dominates everything. I'd like to see Hamilton but all the hype for it irks me and has me conflicted. Part of me has no interest in it because it's not my style of music at all, but then another part of me is falling for the hype and wants to see it just to see what all the hype is about. Damn you, Lin-Manuel Miranda! :-\ *shakes fist* LOL

I LOVED In The Heights - and Hamilton's music sounds just like it - if not better. It's talked about as being a "rap" musical - but I really don't think of it that way. It's got some great upbeat songs... but also a couple of slower beauties. Have you heard it?

No, I've been meaning to listen to more of it. I have heard/seen them perform the "My Shot" song and it bugged me repeating the same "I'm not throwin' away my shot...shot" line over and over and over and then it got stuck in my head and was really irritating. LOL
I'll likely give it a chance when it plays SF next year.
