Best and worst movies that have been turned into musicals

Can you name some?

We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school

Just recently saw Dogfight. Nice romantic show. Great harmonies. Anyone else see this little show. I will now seek out the movie. (River Phonix and Liv Tyler...I think.)

If the play is anything like the movie you will love it too. It is a sweet movie that should be seen more.

I have never seen the show, but I am familiar with a couple of the songs from Sirius' "On Broadway" channel.

Worst movie to be turned into a good musical may be Little Shop of Horrors

I remember Heathers being a pretty good movie and Rotten Tomatoes gives it 95, imdb 7.3. But, a fairly weak musical (same team as Bat Boy, Legally Blonde)

I thought Matilda was a great movie and an ok musical.

I loved The Little Princess (especially the remake) and haven't had a chance to see Lippa's musical.

Rocky is a great movie and a deserved a bigger audience for the musical. I guess it is still running in Germany.

Something to ponder, I haven't really decided I have my worst/best yet...

Matilda the musical bears little resemblance in many ways to the movie, since it's based more on the original book. The movie has almost none of the darkness of the book, and the musical brings a lot of that darkness out more.

Didn't read the book.

But, I thought the movie was darker than the musical.

My main problem with the musical is 20 and 30 year old singers trying to sound like 10-12. Same issue with Newsies. They can't do the movie or the book on stage it has to be adapted to the stage, so didn't mind their choices, I went in knowing to expect differences. Annie put kids in kids parts on broadway.

I saw the National Tours of Matilda and Newsies - and they were pretty much all played by kids. The guys in Newsies were teens or near. There were no 30 year olds playing kids in either. Not sure where you saw the shows.

Just a guy in Texas who loves movies. 
