A hit show like Hamilton

Do you ever think that some day that Broadway will ever see a hit show like Hamilton right now, that it is poplar the you can't and pretty much won't see it on Broadway until 2017 at the vey earliest, in less you winning a drawing to see it, or get a second party vendor that charges you really more then an arm and a leg to see the show, like say hundreds of dollars if not thousands.

There have been plenty like it before... Phantom of the Opera, to name just one.

I think Wicked was that popular as well when it first opened, so it's possible there will be another one. It might be awhile though since I think Wicked was the last one before Hamilton but I could be wrong about that though.

It could be, I ma not sure if when Jersey Boys first opened on Broadway if they were playing over and over again to sold out audiences, but it will be interesting to see when this will happen again.

I think The Book of Mormon is the most recent pre-Hamilton hit.

Look down the list of posts, you will see another question like this.

There tend to be about 3 blockbuster Broadway shows a decade. Meaning shows that sellout on Broadway, and tours months in advance at the same time.

The Sound of Music, Hello, Dolly, A Chorus Line, Annie, Cats, Les Miz POTO, Miss Saigon, The Lion King, Wicked, Jersey Boys, The Producers, The Book of Mormon.

Not sure of the box office, but Evita may fit in there too.

We have been pretty lucky this century that both the quantity, quality and interest appear to be going up.

I remember people talking about The Book of Mormon the same way, just a few years ago. I think tickets were very hard to get for that too. Around the time Josh Gad left the cast was when the hype calmed down. Now, the show's extremely easy to see because it's constantly touring. I can see Hamilton being similar 5 years down the road. They just opened the Chicago version, and I saw a posting for auditions for a Toronto version. The hype will likely dwindle as more people actually get in to see the show at least once.

Also, I'm sure Lin-Manuel Miranda will eventually write another Broadway show. The guy's only in his 30s and he writes like he's running out of time. Besides, I'm sure that the upcoming Broadway version of Disney's Frozen will have astronomical ticket sales a la Wicked.
