Great show.. beautiful lush music and heart wrenching story. I wasn't sure what to expect with the subject matter. I knew going in that the show would either be preachy and political, kind of like Rent begging the audience to feel sorry for the characters, or would have a really good story where characters had some struggles, growth, and found some light or perspective at the end. I am so happy to report that it was the later. For those unfamiliar, the story is based on an autobiographical graphic novel. The author (also the storyteller in the musical) reflects back to scenes of herself as a 10 year old and a freshman in college. As a little girl she wondered why she liked boy clothes and was attracted to women. Her father, a funeral director and hobbist who restored furniture and homes battled his own demons as a closeted married gay man. He was at odds with his daughter who he wished to dress in pretty dresses as well as perform school tasks precisely to his liking and vision of good. This is a show that I would love to see again to catch all of the nuisances of that little girl trying to find herself inspite of a father who also struggled with his identity and projected that onto his daughter. The father and daughter interactions created the atmosphere for a highly dysfunctional family. :)

eh... I don't get that at all from RENT. I think it's pretty much perfect.

I love the music in Rent, but I am in the minority as far as loving the story. I just didn't feel empathy for any of the characters.... again, just me.

~ Its an interesting and great show. It may tiny lingering scenes but still worth watching.
