Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical

With the only actor that is known to Willy Wonka in the musical version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I mean would they have to have kids share roles and be Alternates like how they do with a lot of children's roles, where kids would share a role with another child, and they might do where one plays a character in one performance, the next one will play the character in the next performance. Or be on a set schedule where one kid will do only matinees and the other will do only evening shows, in less one can't do a show for an example say if they get sick. But aren't the kids supposed to be at least pre teens or even teens like 12 or 13?

In the movie all the kids are about 10 or so.

Here is some information about casting children in professional productions: http://www.playbill.com/article/ask-playbillcom-child-actors-on-broadway-com-148947

As far as age, many child actors I have known are small for their age and can portray younger roles for a long period of time. Many of the orphans in Annie stayed with the production for years.

The London production has kids as Charlie, Violet, Veruca, Mike, and Augustus.

According to casting notices that were out several months ago, the Broadway production (which is NOT a direct transfer of the London one) will cast a kid as Charlie, and young adults in their late teens as the other kids. I don't know why they are doing it like this but will find out when I see it next spring!

Thank for the interesting article, and yes it depends on the age of the child that they could stay in a role for a long time, but I can't imagine any child would want to stay a long time in a production until they grow out of a role, even if they have engird it is still a lot for them to be able to perform. And it would depend on the production soon how many kids will eprom and how big their role. Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, a lot of summers expect for this past summer have done family productions that are shorter in length then the Broadway shows, one of the most recent shows they did was The Little Mermaid which running time was 80 minutes, and they only had one boy that played the role of Flounder. And even for a production of The Lion King young Nala would be a short part for a girl, where a boy that plays the role of young Simba they are on stage for most of act 1, and they are done once you get to close to the end of Hapuna Matata that also closes act 1 of the show.

I bet it will be interesting for you to find that out or at least try to
