old christmas cartoon

i used to have a vhs tape of this christmas cartoon about kids in an orphanage who wake up to no christmas presents... they all start to cry and some man walking by hears them and sneaks in the house and uses household things to create a christmas wonderland... i cant remember what its called...anyone know of it?

I believe it's Fleischer's beloved Somewhere in Dreamland: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0028277/plotsummary

"Fortunately, I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency."

To be honest it doesn't really sound anything like Somewhere in Dreamland to me. Somewhere in Dreamland, for example, has no orphanage, no old man, and, and I haven't seen the cartoon in a few years so I may be wrong, no christmas.

I think you may be right, but I was going on the premise that sometimes people get things mixed up in their memory. I picked out the parts that the troubles were overheard and the kids woke up to nice food and things.

Mickey Mouse did a good turn for a large family whose dad was incarcerted at Christmastime in Mickey's Good Deed: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023215/plotsummary, but they're not orphans or people.

Fleischer's Grampy (or Pappy) was known for putting things together with household items and I think he was featured in a Christmas cartoon, but I don't remember the title or if there were orphans. Ring a bell for you?

Actually, just a Fleischer/Mae Questel fan .

Several people have put the cartoon on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdr00noMDvM

A shorter version of this was used in Pee Wee's Christmas Special!
