pingu

I would like to raise appreciation of the Pingu cartoons. These are 5-minute animations, made in Switzerland - the old ones from the 1980s and 1990s were the best, they recently had a relaunch with 'tidied up' and not so charming animation. It's about a little penguin who lives in an igloo with his parents and baby sister and keeps having adventures that every young child will recognise. Part of the fun is that all the dialogue is made-up 'penguin language', and a toddler can use his/her intelligence to guess what is happening and what kind of things they are saying. This barely conveys the brilliance of these little cartoons but try them - you'll be hooked! One of the best is when Pingu is asked to sit on the egg containing his little sister, before she hatches. Instead of staying put he decides to put on his gramophone and do some disco dancing, and the egg starts dancing with him, to his great alarm!

I love Pingu. I find it so cute and adorable. It was one of my favourites when I was a kid, and I am still very fond of it.
