Why do they talk down to kids on pre-school shows today?

Ever notice on pre-school shows on Playhouse Disney or Nick Jr today the stars are usually adults who talk to the screen but act like they have the iq of a ping pong ball? And act like you have the iq of a ping pong ball.

If you're around 19 now remember when you were 9 and you'd run home from school to watch Brother Bear. Shows were just entertaining and wern't talking down to you. Shows like Rugrats or Bobby's World were safe for small kids but were also entertaining.

The Wiggles is the dumbest show on television. Plus they just replaced the main guy with someone else who doesn't even stand out. He's just there. It's like a soap opera.

I mean who thought of the format where the stars ask the screen a question then wait for an answer then magically do it. I blame Dora the Explorer, the show that ruined children's television. I'm glad I didn't grow up with this crap. It's all the same, every show is the same thing. Nothing different.

It's like they're only catering to 2 year olds when their demographic is supposed to be 4-6. I'm pretty sure a 4 year old knows the difference between an apple and a lemon.

Keep in mind I'm only talking about Playhouse Disney, not Disney Channel or Nickelodeon who's demographic is 12-15. Though I noticed those shows are obsessed with Paris Hilton.

I don't watch the kind of stuff that they show today but I know what you mean. You know, in previous shows that used to be on for the pre-school crowd, at least the adults talked to the kids in something of an intelligent matter and the whole things were put together intelligently. Like Rupert, and Little Bear, and Papa Beaver's Storytime, those were great shows, they certainly wouldn't do any harm to any kids today who'd be watching, they were well put together and enjoyable and they were intelligent. Nobody can seem to do anything right anymore in that regard.

The guy in the yellow shirt on THE WIGGLES had to be replaced cuz he had health problems.
I have not seen "the new guy" so i cant comment on that.

I liked THE WIGGLES when my daughter was in nursery school and used to watch it. The music is catchy. If it inspires kids to pick up an instrument - as well as learn to eat healthy and have manners- more power to 'em!

I know shows like BLUES CLUES and DORA are a pain to watch as an adult...but I think they are great learning shows for very young children. RUGRATS and BOBBYS WORLD were great shows but really didnt TEACH much.

Lukily for kids there are so many choices now so there are channels with programming for very young, young, older, and teen.

I think, these days, there is an assumption that children are morons who need to be pandered to. When I was a kid, I was quite happy to watch Nick and Disney shows until I was sixteen or seventeen because there were decent shows for kids. These days, it's not surprise that even ten-year-olds don't watch Disney because it is so dumbed down with drudge. I suppose it doesn't help that many adult audience members prove themselves to be idiots with the way they love to watch these brain dead reality shows like 'Big Brother' so it's no surprise that TV producers think kids must be the same.

I hear that, I used to watch the shows on Nick Jr. until I was 9 and my brother was always on my case about how I was past the pre-school age, well they were good shows.

You know, I don't even know what most of the shows on Nick Jr. are today, and I have not known what they are for several years, and I'm glad I don't. Just as I'm glad I don't know most of what's on Disney channel anymore, or Cartoon Network. They were all great channels, had great programs, but now they've all gone to complete and total crap.

I think they are aimed at children much younger than you. You are not their target audience.

So why are there so many kids the age the shows are aimed at, that won't even watch them? Because they are crap.
