I find these lists interesting as reddit users trend a bit younger than critics so you'll often see more recent entries on the lists with some older films taking a bit of a hit.
A few thoughts;
- Ari Aster is extremely overrated on reddit. He's directed two films and both of them make the top 10.
- Scream is finally overtaking the old guard of slasher films. This can be seen on Letterboxd too where it has a slightly higher rating than Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street. I always remembered it being considered just a tad below the others...less prestigious.
- I really don't understand reddits love affair with The Cabin in the Woods or Trick 'r Treat. Never liked those films but they consistently rank highly on these lists. Surprised they have so many diehard fans.
- Psycho is the hard cut off. Nosferatu is the sole pre-1960 film on this list. That's not uncommon on these sorts of lists. People don't give a rats ass about Horror pre-Psycho.
